Isle of Skye

Private jet charter to the Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye is the largest of Scotland’s Hebrides Islands, off the northwest coast of Scotland. Dramatic cliffs and breathtaking mountain ranges make this untouched gem a walker’s paradise. The island’s otherworldly landscapes – unusual rock formations, lochs and desolate vistas – have featured in popular films such as Prometheus and Roald Dahl’s The BFG. Experience it all: request a private jet charter quote from Air Charter Service.

Get off the beaten track on the Isle of Skye and you’ll feel like you’ve been away for months, not days. The island itself covers an area of 1,656 km2 but if you don’t have time to see it all, there are some key areas to cover.

Old Man of Storr is a large pinnacle in the northernmost peninsula, Trotternish, which can be seen for miles. The walk to and from this focal point is one of the most celebrated on the island. Keen photographers should also hike the Quiraing, a distinctive landscape of towering cliffs, hidden plateaus and rock pinnacles created by a landslip. Other fascinating natural sights in Trotternish include Kilt Rock, an ancient sea cliff that resembles a kilt, and Mealt Falls waterfall, which plunges dramatically into the sea.

Neist Point, on the island’s western tip, is marked by one of Scotland’s oldest lighthouses. Walk here through Durinish for stunning views, which are particularly dramatic at sunset. Scale the island’s highest peak, 922-metre Sgurr Alasdair, in the Black Cuillin mountain range; or stay at the base and bathe in the Fairy Pools, a cluster of azure rock pools and waterfalls.

Other key points of interest include the 13th-century Eilean Donan Castle, located on a small tidal island where three sea lochs meet; Dunvegan Castle, Scotland’s oldest continuously inhabited castle where you can learn about the Clan MacLeod; and the fishing village of Portree, the largest settlement on the island. If you like swimming in the sea, the white-sand Coral Beach in Claigan on the west is great for a dip in the summer.

Keen golfers should stay at Skeabost Hotel with its nine-hole course, where guests can also go salmon fishing on the river running through the grounds. Foodies, meanwhile, should opt for Kinloch Lodge Hotel, which boasts a Michelin-starred restaurant and beautiful views onto Loch Na Dal. Another option is Duisdale House Hotel, which was built in 1865 and has extensive grounds to explore.
