Rostov-on-Don Airport opened in 1925 as an airfield, with the first passenger terminal being constructed in the 1930s. During the Second World War, the airport was destroyed, and had to be reconstructed. The airportâ€™s operations resumed in 1949 and since then it has been a commercial success and is now the 12th busiest airport in Russia. The airport has VIP facilities within the terminal building. The airport is to be replaced with a brand new facility at the end of 2017 for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
